{"id":4475,"date":"2022-06-29T11:08:59","date_gmt":"2022-06-29T03:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mckl.edu.my\/pykett\/?p=4475"},"modified":"2022-07-04T20:47:17","modified_gmt":"2022-07-04T12:47:17","slug":"double-win-for-mckl-teams-at-inaugural-um-civil-engineering-quiz","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mckl.edu.my\/pykett\/2022\/06\/29\/double-win-for-mckl-teams-at-inaugural-um-civil-engineering-quiz\/","title":{"rendered":"Double Win for MCKL Teams at Inaugural UM Civil Engineering Quiz"},"content":{"rendered":"\t\t<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"4475\" class=\"elementor elementor-4475\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-75a099b8 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"75a099b8\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-29b10eb2\" data-id=\"29b10eb2\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-30e2a1fc elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"30e2a1fc\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Two teams of Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) Cambridge A Level students beat 18 other competing teams to bag the Champion and First Runner-Up at the Inaugural Universiti Malaya Civil Engineering Quiz.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The quiz competition was one of the activities under Universiti Malaya Civil Convention 2022, which was jointly organized by the Civil and Environmental Engineering Club Universiti Malaysia (CEEC) and Institution of Civil Engineers Universiti Malaya Student Chapter (ICEUMSC).<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Aptly named \u2018CiviQ\u2019, the quiz competition aims to introduce pre-university and upper-secondary level students to the world of engineering through a challenging yet fun quiz in hopes of cultivating the next batch of leading civil engineers. The one-day quiz took place on 17 April 2022 and was held at Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Malaya. Participants also had the opportunity to tour the faculty and its lab facilities and got to learn more about the engineering industry from UM\u2019s lecturers and students.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The two representing and winning teams from MCKL were:<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Winning the Champion, RM1,000 cash prize, a team trophy and medals and certificates for all team members &#8212; the \u2018Polybridge Engineers\u2019 team that consisted of Lee Cheng Zhen (team leader), Edgar Wong, Ahilan Suresh Kumar, and Dayalan Suresh Kumar.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Bagging First Runner-Up, RM750 cash prize, a team trophy and medals and certificates for all team members \u2013 \u2018Team Civil Titans\u2019 that consisted of Joyton Fu Hung Li (team leader), Derek Loh Jia-Yang, Yap Shi Ying, and Kang Ee Ming.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The competition process was not an easy one. Separated into two sessions, the elimination round required each team to take an exam-style test and the final round involved a buzzer round and a jeopardy-style event.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Lee Cheng Zhen said that they had a good head start into their research work before the competition. \u201cOur coach shared the research scope and topics with us ahead of the competition. There were multiple topics involved so we decided to delegate researching and studying a few topics,\u201d he said.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Joyton said that it took a lot of teamwork as each team member have different area of expertise and skillset. \u201cA high level of spontaneity was required as the final round was quite intense.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Both teams felt proud of their wins. Cheng Zhen said that the team did not expect to qualify for the final round let alone crowned as the Champion.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe intended to gain experience instead of win. Holding the trophy on the podium was a huge moment of pride for us and for MCKL, especially since both teams from MCKL achieved the top two spots!\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><i><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Heartiest congratulations to both teams for their success in the competition!<\/span><\/i><span data-ccp-props=\"{\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">MCKL is one of the earliest tertiary institutions in Malaysia to offer the Cambridge A Level programme as an education pathway for school leavers to further their studies globally. MCKL\u2019s A Level programme is one of the most affordable and internationally recognised in Malaysia.
