Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) opened its auditorium doors for the year of 2022, on the 2nd of April for its Graduation & Awards Ceremony. The ceremony was conducted for three courses: Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE), Diploma in Social Work (DSW), and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).

Not only students were awarded with their accolades for their respective field of study, prizes and awards were also given to students who made accomplishments with their aptitude, leaving a mark, and becoming a part of MCKL’s legacy.

To commemorate this Graduation & Awards Ceremony 2022, Ms. Angela Pok, CEO of MCKL; Reverend Dr T Jeyakumar, Bishop of the Methodist Church in Malaysia; and the respective head of programmes were present to award the students with their certificates.

Ms. Angela shared her heartfelt sentiments, saying, “I admire all of you, students, faculty, and staff alike, that we could get through over two years of the pandemic. Our journey might have had a rocky start but looking at how far we’ve come, and the accomplishments achieved, I continue to be proud towards our students and our institution.”

This would be the second, physical graduation and awards ceremony that MCKL held after the Covid-19 pandemic. MCKL fell back to organising a virtual one last year September in consideration for everybody’s safety.

Reverand Dr. T Jeyakumar, Bishop of the Methodist Church in Malaysia congratulated all the students, lecturers and support staffs for the dedication and determination throughout the programme and attested that The Methodist Church and the Council of Education continue to be proud of their graduates’ success and achievements since the College was first established in 1983.

This year’s graduation and award ceremony saw 17 graduates from the Early Childhood Education diploma programme. 7 of them graduated with merit, while 6 achieved distinctions. Lim Zhi Wei was awarded the ‘Datuk Dr. Chiam Heng Keng Award 2022’ for being the overall best performer.

The Social Work diploma programme celebrated their second graduating batch this year since its establishment five years ago. 2 students graduated with distinction, and 4 graduated with merit. In honour of the late Tan Sri Dr. Tan Chee Khoon to society and nation, as a leader in the Parliament of Malaysia and was a member of the Methodist Church in Malaysia who has battled many social issues, the ‘Tan Sri Dr. Tan Chee Khoon Award 2022’ was awarded to Gan Lee Fan this year.

Being a Platinum Status Approved Learning Partner (ALP) of ACCA, MCKL is proud to produce 10 ACCA affiliates. One of them is Ang Guo Weng, who made his mark as Malaysia Top 3 Affiliates at 3rd place and 16th place globally. He was also the World Prize Winner in the year 2019; and was also awarded Malaysia Prize Winner for two consecutive years in a row, 2019 and 2020. Ganapathi Murugappan, who is still studying his ACCA programme with MCKL, was awarded World Prize Winner for FTX (MYS) Foundation in Taxation paper.

As the ceremony came to an end, Ms. Angela emphasised on the importance of EQ in today’s world that it goes along with the career for better progress. “Learn to be bold and take risk, never let failure stop your ambitions. At times we may think that we are in a fix, but I urge you to not give up and see it as chance to explore and test your limits,” she said.

Founded in 1983, MCKL is celebrating its 39th anniversary this year. With its many well recorded milestones in the field of education, MCKL continues its vision and commitment of being ‘The Institution of Excellence for Life’ in producing graduates and nurturing them to be respectable role models for generations to come.
