Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (“MCKL”) proudly celebrated the achievements of 258 students during the recent graduation ceremony of its Cambridge A Level, Diploma in Early Childhood Education (DECE), Australian Matriculation (AUSMAT), ACCA and ACCA FIA programmes, held at its Kuala Lumpur campus on Saturday, 2 September 2023.

The graduates’ remarkable performance in their respective programmes is a testament to the institution’s reputation for 40 years of excellence in education.

Speaking to the graduating class, MCKL Chief Executive Officer Dr. Chua Ping Yong emphasised the core values that have guided students throughout their academic journey: “At the heart of your journey lies the value of upholding principles that emphasise our moral compass, encouraging us to lead lives characterised by integrity, empathy, and compassion. As you move forward, carry this commitment to goodness, kindness, and humility, using your actions to exemplify the principles that guide us towards positive and virtuous living.”

The graduation ceremony not only symbolises a noteworthy achievement in the student’s academic lives, signifying the culmination of years of hard work, commitment, and dedication but also serves as a testament to MCKL’s mission of nurturing individuals who excel academically while being grounded in values that serve as their life compass. It is anticipated that this values-based educational approach will continue to shape future leaders, innovators, and change-makers across various fields.

Cambridge A Level Excellence

MCKL is one of the earliest tertiary institutions in Malaysia to offer the Cambridge A Level programme as an education pathway for school leavers to further their studies globally. Today, MCKL’s A Level programme is known as one of the most affordable and internationally recognised pre-university qualifications.

This year’s graduating class attained 99.5% percent passing rate, with almost 50% of the class scoring a commendable 3As and above. In addition, 24 students were awarded the prestigious Excellence Award for achieving a remarkable CGPA of 3.70 or higher.

Dareena Kaur Kaulsay gives a compelling speech on behalf of her fellow Cambridge A Level graduates.

Among the standout achievers, Ms. Dareena Kaur Kaulsay secured the prestigious titles of Top in the World for Advanced Subsidiary Law and Top in Malaysia for Advanced Subsidiary Level English Literature. Her remarkable academic journey also culminated in the receipt of the Overall Academic Excellence Pure Arts 2023 Award.

Additionally, Mr. Loo Jing Herng, another high achiever in the Cambridge A Level programme. He was honoured with the Bishop Denis C. Dutton Scholar 2023 Award and the Overall Academic Excellence Combination of Science and Arts 2023 Award for achieving the best performance in the A Level Examination conducted in June 2023. Furthermore, Ms. Mac Shao-Rei, a distinguished Cambridge A Level graduate too, demonstrated outstanding academic prowess and was bestowed with the Overall Academic Excellence Pure Science 2023 award.

As of now, MCKL has nurtured numerous award recipients since 2013 and consistently maintained an average 100% pass rate for its Cambridge A Level programme over the past 9 years. These remarkable achievements have led MCKL students to earn prestigious titles such as Top in the World, Top in Malaysia, and High Achievements across various subjects, facilitating their admission to esteemed universities both domestically and internationally.

Outstanding Achievements Across Programmes

In Diploma in Early Childhood Education (“DECE”) programme, nine students from the graduating class graduated with Distinctions. DECE graduate Ms. Ling Yoong Le was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award and Datuk Dr. Chiam Heng Keng Award 2023, in recognition of her outstanding 3.93 CGPA.

MCKL’s Australian Matriculation (“AUSMAT”) programme had over 46% of MCKL’s AUSMAT students achieving Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (“ATAR”) scores of 80 and above. Mr. Tham Ming Kit emerging as a standout achiever, boasting an ATAR score of 95.35. Ming Kit also received the Dr. F R Bhupalan Award 2023 for his outstanding ATAR score.

The graduation ceremony also commemorated the achievements of graduates in the ACCA programme and ACCA Foundation in Accountancy (FIA) programmes, who are poised to make significant contributions in their respective industries.
