Seven Cambridge A Level students from Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) were recognised for their exceptional achievements at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards Malaysia (OCLA) held at Doubletree by Hilton, Shah Alam on 27 November 2023.
Organised by Cambridge Assessment International Education, the OCLA recognises exceptional achievements of students in Cambridge examinations globally. These awards, including the coveted ‘Top in the World’, ‘Top in Country’, ‘Best Across’, and ‘High Achievement’, celebrate and acknowledge the success of high-performing Cambridge learners.
MCKL has been committed to the nurturing of high achievers since 2013, and this legacy was reaffirmed with the consecutive accolades of ‘Top in the World’ and ‘Top in Malaysia’ attained by its students. This year’s OCLA witnessed the presentation of eight awards to seven outstanding MCKL students, providing further testament to the college’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence.
Among the distinguished recipients was Ms. Dareena Kaur Kaulsay, a standout student and recipient of the MCKL Merit Scholarship. Dareena achieved ‘Top in the World’ for A Level Law and ‘Top in Malaysia’ for A Level Literature in English.
“I received the same awards for my AS Level examination. I felt a lot of emotions at once. I was mostly shocked because I did not think I would get any awards. There was tough competition from my talented classmates. But when I got the award for my AS Level, it motivated me to achieve it again for my A Level,” said Dareena.
In addition, two students from the inaugural batch of A Level students from MCKL College (Penang, Pykett Campus), Tung Ze Rui and Wong Ching Shuen, achieved ‘Top in the World’ for AS Level Law and AS Level Physics, respectively.
Tung Ze Rui said, “receiving the ‘Top in the World’ award is a testament to my passion and dedication to Law. This achievement has made me more confident in my future endeavours. I am thankful to my lecturers who gave me tremendous support during my preparation for the exams. They were always eager to help, and they went the extra mile to ensure that I understood the content.”
Wong Ching Shuen said, “This award is a concrete recognition of my efforts and a confidence boost that will aid me in reaching greater heights in the future. Most importantly, this award serves as a constant reminder for me to stay humble and grateful to everyone around me because MCKL and the community I had here were instrumental to my success. I have always relied heavily on my lecturers’ effective teaching and concise notes. My parents, on the other hand, have always been supportive of me emotionally and mentally.”
