College Readiness - Teaching and Learning Symposium

MCKL’s 2nd teaching and learning symposium in KL campus will focus on college readiness, which encompasses the skills, behaviors, and knowledge high school students should possess before entering college. Counsellors and teachers play crucial roles in ensuring students are prepared for academic success in college.

According to Conley, college readiness comprises four “keys”: Key Cognitive Strategies, Key Content Knowledge, Key Learning Skills and Techniques, and Key Transition Knowledge and Skills (Conley, D. T., Aspengren, K., Stout, O., & Veach, D., 2006).

While a college degree can lead to a successful career, the postsecondary environment differs significantly from high school, requiring students to be prepared with more than just traditional academic skills. Soft skills, such as interpersonal abilities, are essential for a great college experience and should be developed through ongoing teaching and learning processes supported by educators.
