MCKL College (Penang, Pykett Campus) continues to shine on the national and international stage, with its students excelling in prestigious academic competitions. This year, students from the Cambridge A Level (CAL) programme showcased their talent in the Kijang Economics Competition 2024 and the Kangaroo Maths Competition 2024, bringing home top awards and recognition. Their achievements reflect MCKL’s commitment to academic excellence and its students’ dedication to mastering their fields.
Kijang Economics Competition 2024
The Kijang Economics Competition is a national economics competition for secondary schools and pre-university students, which aims to challenge students’ economics knowledge through economics, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and business.
The top 10% of participants received Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medals and Award Certificates. The next 40% received Honourable Mention Certificates, and the next 50% received Certificates of Participation.
This year, Vinceton Yeoh Tze Chung achieved the highest award category, securing a Gold Award. This was followed by Leong Yi Shen and Poh Xiao Xun, who both received Bronze Awards. The remaining eight students all received Honourable Mention Certificates.
An awards ceremony was held at the Pykett Campus to celebrate the students’ achievements. Dr Gerard Boey, Principal of MCKL College, presented the awards and certificates to the students and their teacher advisor, Ms Lee Bui Bui.

Kangaroo Math Competition 2024
Eight Pre-U students from MCKL College (Penang, Pykett Campus) participated in the Kangaroo Maths Competition (Student Category: Forms 5, 6 & Pre-U).
The Kangaroo Maths Competition is an international school-level mathematics competition organised by the Association Kangourou sans Frontières (AKSF), a transnational educational group based in Paris. Founded in the early 1980s, the Kangaroo Maths Competition is currently the world’s largest mathematics competition, with over 6 million participants from more than 100 countries in 2024.
For 2024, the top 10% of participants received Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medals and Award Certificates. The next 40% received Honourable Mention Certificates, and the next 50% received Certificates of Participation.
This year, Vinceton Yeoh Tze Chung achieved the highest award category, securing a Gold Award. Lee Pyn and Wong Sheng-Yan from CAL2307 also excelled, both achieving Bronze Awards. The remaining five students received Honourable Mention Certificates.
