MCKL Students Excel Internationally with Cambridge Outstanding Learner Awards 

Six MCKL Students Brought Home Seven Prestigious Awards, Including “Top in the World” and “Top in Malaysia” Honours 

Six Cambridge A-Level students from Methodist College Kuala Lumpur (MCKL) were recognised for their exceptional achievements at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards Malaysia (OCLA) held at Taylor’s International School Puchong.  

Organised by Cambridge Assessment International Education, the OCLA recognises exceptional achievements of students in Cambridge examinations globally. These awards, including the coveted ‘Top in the World’, ‘Top in Country’, ‘Best Across’, and ‘High Achievement’, celebrate and acknowledge the success of high-performing Cambridge learners.  

Since 2013, MCKL has nurtured more than 174 high achievers, a legacy further strengthened by its students’ latest “Top in the World” and “Top in Malaysia” accolades at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards. This year’s OCLA witnessed the presentation of seven awards to six outstanding MCKL students, providing further testament to the college’s unwavering dedication to academic excellence.  

Among the distinguished recipients was Colin Wong Jin Jun, the recipient of Top in the World scores for AS Level Further Mathematics and Top in Malaysia scores for AS Level Economics. He was a 100% Merit Scholarship recipient in MCKL and the alumnus of Sri Kuala Lumpur International School. He will be continuing his higher studies in University of Warwick, pursuing MORSE (Math, Operational Research, Statistics, Economics).  

“Studying at MCKL has been a truly enriching experience, offering a conducive learning environment with minimal distractions while also opening up extensive opportunities for both local and overseas university pathways. Some of my most memorable experiences include my time in the Science Experiment Club and participation in community service programmes. I am especially grateful to my friends, teachers, and family for their unwavering support throughout my A-Level journey. The lecturers were always approachable and willing to help whenever I faced difficulties, while my friends played an important role in my revision by sharing useful exam strategies and guidance on challenging questions,” said Colin Wong when reflecting on his time at MCKL.  

Among the distinguished recipients were Lim Yee Cheng and Kor Min Xuan, both of whom achieved ‘Top in the World’ scores for AS Level Mathematics. Lim Yee Cheng, a 100% scholarship recipient at MCKL and alumnus of St. John International Secondary School, shared that MCKL lecturers played a pivotal role in her learning experience, going the extra mile to ensure understanding and continuously supporting students to achieve their best. She added that the kindness and enthusiasm of both staff and students made her journey deeply meaningful, allowing her to grow not only academically but also in maturity and mindset during her time at MCKL. 

Kor Min Xuan, a 100% scholarship recipient and alumnus of Poi Lam High School, credited his MCKL lecturers for refining his thinking and sharpening his problem-solving skills, enabling him to explore mathematics in a new light. He also expressed gratitude to his parents for nurturing his academic path and fostering his strengths from an early stage, which helped him develop a genuine interest in learning and appreciation for understanding concepts rather than rote study. 

The achievements of MCKL students at the Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards reflect the college’s continued commitment to academic excellence and holistic student development. With a strong support system of dedicated educators, enriching opportunities, and a nurturing learning environment, MCKL continues to empower students to reach global standards and excel on both national and international stages.
