MCKL Strengthens Academic Foundations Through Writing and Presentation Skills Workshop

MCKL College (Penang, Pykett Campus) recently organised an Academic Writing and Presentation Skills Workshop to help diploma students build a strong foundation for academic success.

The workshop brought together 34 students from various diploma programmes, including Digital Business, Digital Marketing, Information Technology, Computer Science, and Early Childhood Education. It was designed as an early academic support initiative to prepare students for the expectations and demands of tertiary education.

Preparing Students for Academic Excellence

The session focused primarily on strengthening students’ academic writing abilities, equipping them with essential skills required for coursework and assessments. Key areas covered included report formatting, referencing and citation techniques, page organisation, and the development of clear, well-structured academic writing.

Students were also introduced to qualitative and quantitative research methods, helping them understand how to organise, analyse, and present information effectively in an academic context.

A lecturer explains key concepts in academic writing using real-world examples, guiding students on how to structure ideas clearly and effectively during the session.

Developing Effective Presentation Skills

Alongside writing, the workshop emphasised the importance of delivering presentations with clarity and confidence. Students learnt fundamental presentation techniques, including articulation, voice projection, and professional delivery, helping them to communicate their ideas more effectively in classroom settings.

Interactive Learning Experience

Conducted by lecturers Ms Jayashiry, Ms Naaga Ambirami Nachair, and Ms Siti Fatimah, the workshop adopted a practical, hands-on approach to learning. Students participated in mini presentations, group discussions, and guided exercises, enabling them to apply what they learnt in a supportive and collaborative learning environment.

Supporting a Smooth Transition into Higher Education

The workshop reflects MCKL’s commitment to supporting students as they transition into diploma studies by equipping them with the essential academic skills needed to succeed. By strengthening core skills in academic writing and presentation early on, students are better prepared to meet academic expectations and excel throughout their studies.
