Meet Dr Melissa Mae Gabriel, Valedictorian & The President’s Award Winner at RCSI & UCD Malaysia and proud MCKL alumni from the Cambridge A Level programme.
Dr Melissa was awarded first place in Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Psychiatry while also receiving an award of “Undergraduate Researcher of the Year” in Dublin, Ireland.
Upon speaking with Dr Melissa, she shared some words of advice to those who would like to pursue the medical field, and what can they expect along the journey:
“I think the first step is to ponder on the big question of “why medicine”. Because medicine is very exciting but there also the not so shiny bits- days when you are stressed out from exams, when you are exhausted and have zero motivation and days when you feel absolutely inadequate in helping somebody. Those are days when you need that strong conviction to carry you through. There will be trials and tribulations, there will be sweat and tears. Medicine is a very challenging journey and I am only at the beginning but it is certainly very rewarding.”
