The Malaysian Association of Social Workers (MASW) was founded in 1973 and is registered as an affiliate member of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), with the purpose of promoting and maintaining the quality of social work practice and education in Malaysia.

Industry Relevant Curriculum
A competency-based educational programme designed in reference to the National Competency Standards for Social Work Practice (2010). Speakers from renowned NGOs, such as Women’s Aid Organisation, Yayasan Kajian & Pembangunan Masyarakat are frequently engaged to conduct sessions and trainings.

Field trips to locations such as PPR flats, indigenous villages, welfare homes and more are conducted to give students valuable exposure and experience, preparing them to excel in field placements and future employment.

*MPU Subjects: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) requires all students to take Mata Pelajaran Umum (MPU) (i.e. General Studies) within the duration of their studies. MCKL established a series of subjects that different programs need to implement for all students to meet the Ministry’s requirements. Subjects will differ depending on the institution and the level of degree the student is taking.

- Will the college arrange for Field Practice or students have to look for it on their own?
Students are encouraged to go another Organizations for a more varied experiential learning. If there is a preference of organization, DSW can facilitate discussion and arrangement. If not, DSW has a list of organization which students can choose from. All placement can be discussed and arranged with Programme Coordinator with the cooperation of the student and the supervisor in the respective Organization.
- For working adults who are currently involved in social work, can they be exempted from Field Practice?
No, Field Practice is a mandatory requirement for meeting educational and competency standards of social work education as well as for satisfying the 90 credit hours stipulated by MQA.
- What are the class schedules like?
For full time programme, classes will be held on weekdays 8am -4pm. For part time programme, classes will be conducted on Friday nights and full day on Saturday to facilitate accessibility for working adults

- Can students also apply for scholarship? How about other financial assistance (e.g. PTPTN, EPF)?
Students are given options to apply for scholarships or financial assistance such as PTPTN (full-time) and EPF (full time & part-time). Otherwise, students can make individual appeals to private education funds or church-based education organisations for scholarships or loans.
- Who are the lecturers?
They are highly experienced in government and non-government fields of social work practice with a basic and/or postgraduate degree from a recognised university. MCKL has ensured they are qualified to teach in their area of academic study and have acquired the required teaching permit from the Ministry of Higher Education.
- Will the Diploma be accepted as entry into a Bachelor’s degree programme locally and internationally?
The curriculum was developed in collaboration with an international social work consultant, and the programme was approved by a public social work education expert on the panel of MQA. The diploma in MCKL will be accepted as entry into a Bachelor’s degree programme locally. However, for international Bachelor degree programme, students will have to apply for credit transfer and the admission will be vary on a case by case basis.
